Intercultural Competence & Soft Skills

Intercultural competence: In terms of communication, students learn team building abilities (especially in international contexts) as well as conflict solving skills, focusing on the achievement of cultural competence as a strategic factor of success in a global economy. Cultural competence is a crucial prerequisite for international business in many ways, particularly regarding human resource management and marketing. However, cultural competence should not just be achieved – it should also influence specific decisions as a sign of behavior, and thus as an aspect of social skills, which need to be developed.

Students will learn to understand why a critical attitude to Change Management is necessary. Furthermore, students will learn to perceive Change Management in its function as a management technique and as a consulting concept. They will understand Kurt Lewin’s Three Stage Concept as well as Change Management is reflected in literature.

Business ethics: Strengthening the personality and enabling students to deal responsibly with their knowledge base (e.g. in dialectics), which includes self-improvement and augmenting the students’ reasoning abilities. The purpose of ethics is to teach ways to rationally reveal - not only in terms of economics - the consequences of one’s actions. Furthermore, students learn to take responsibility

Soft skills: Dialectics/Negotiating should enable students to win through a dispute respecting all rules of fairness. They will learn to lead discussions, talks, negotiations and disputes consciously, using the so-called fair dialectic according to Lay. Rhetoric enables students to improve their manner and - by using certain strategies - to avoid being put to a competitive disadvantage. Students will learn to realize the necessity of their actions and to understand particular management strategies (such as Lean Management, Business Re- Engineering, Total Quality Management, Learning Organization, Kaizen) along with their impacts.
